Temporary Assistance (TA) is the term now used in NYS for Public Assistance (welfare) programs. The term conveys the message that assistance is short-term help for families and individuals while they work their way toward self-sufficiency. Program has an employment focus. TA clients receive money for basic living expenses, food stamps and medical coverage. Eligibility is based on the income and resources of the family. Family Assistance provides money to families with children and Safety Net Assistance provides money for basic living expenses for single adults and childless couples. For assistance with child care costs visit the
Child Care Financial Aid website for details.
Mobile Document Upload
As of 4/27/2021, a free mobile application (app) called NYDocSubmit is available to county residents that enables them to submit necessary documents. NYDocSubmit provides individuals who have applied for, or are receiving Department of Social Services (DSS) benefits, the ability to simply and quickly submit documentation to the DSS. The app is available for download on Google Play™ or the Apple App Store™.
COVID-19 has impacted the employment and income of many county residents. Anyone in receipt of SNAP whose employment has been affected, either because they are currently unemployed or are experiencing a decrease in hours worked, should report these to changes to Delaware County DSS as soon as possible as it may affect their SNAP benefit amount. A convenient way to report this information is to complete and submit an online SNAP change report form (
https://www.mybenefits.ny.gov/). If you are now in receipt of unemployment, you can submit proof of this and other documentation using NYDocSubmit.
