Should the unthinkable happen to you, here are
some tips on..... How To Report A Crime
Find a safe place to make the call. When done, dial
9-1-1- as soon as possible. The longer you wait, the greater the
advantage for the perpetrator.

Tell the 9-1-1 dispatcher your location.

Remain Calm.

The Dispatcher knows what questions to ask you.
They will guide you through the process.

They will ask you for your name and telephone
number so that they can call you back if they need to.

Once an officer arrives, relay your information.
The Dispatcher will have told the officer the basic information
needed. You will be expected to fill in the details.

Keep in mind the description of the perpetrator.
While you are waiting for the officer, you may want to make a
list answering the questions below (while it is fresh in your
mind.)

Sex
-
Race
-
Approximate Age
-
Height -compare it to a nearby object
or the officer’s height
-
Weight - was person average or very thin or
burly?

Hair Color and Length - was a hat or cap
worn to cover hair?

Were there any distinguishing dental details
you recall?
-
If a man, did he have facial hair, mustache,
beard, side burns, etc.?
-
Eye Color - were glasses worn?
-
Were there any visible scars or tattoos and
if so, where?

Description of the person’s clothing. Did it
look like an intentional disguise?

Did the person wear garments having logos?
-
Any tell-tale mannerisms exhibited? Or
repetitious statements?

Did the person exhibit a discernable
dialect?
-
Did the perpetrator use a vehicle? If so,
did you notice make, model, color?

Do you recall ever seeing the perpetrator
anywhere in the past?
