KATHLEEN CURRAN

Delaware County Employee of the Month
March 2010

Ms. Curran began employment with Delaware County in March, 1992 as a typist in the Department of Social Services’ Program Division.  The Program Division is responsible for Public Assistance, Food Stamps, Medicaid, Emergency Programs and HEAP.  Kathleen excelled in her role and acquired a broad knowledge of  the major programs and the various aspects of the automated Welfare Management System.  In 1998, DSS launched a new delivery model for the Program Division and, in recognition of her knowledge and leadership skills, she was promoted to Senior Typist and placed in charge of the other clerical support staff.  In 2001, when a vacancy occurred in the Commissioner’s Administrative Office, Kathleen was promoted to Administrative Aide.

Kathleen works with the Administrative Assistant as the Medicaid Transportation Coordinators for all non-emergent Medicaid transportation, which involves between 100 to 200 different types of transports each week.  She assists with the responsibility for maintaining DSS personnel records and automotive records.  She helps prepare Civil Service documents and processing DSS payroll.  In addition, as time permits, she continues to provide support and expertise to the Program Division, particularly with the conversion from manual case record keeping to electronically scanned documents.

Kathleen enjoys the varied aspects and perspectives of the many functions she performs during any particular day.  She enjoys working with her colleagues who are interesting, friendly and always fulfilling.  Her day’s work is never boring!

Kathleen moved to this area from New York City many years ago with her father, since both had a strong attraction to our upstate rural area.  Although other family members are not local, Kathleen feels like Delhi is her home and she has a wide range of friends and acquaintances in the area.

Kathleen is an avid gardener, especially where the cultivation of flowers is concerned.  She has a long standing hobby as a builder of doll houses and is parent to three rather sophisticated felines:  Little Joe, Elizabeth and Ollie.

Kathleen is a hard-working, personable staff member.  Her two promotions speak well of her performance as measured both by her peers and Administration.  She brings a natural spirit to the job that underscores its importance, but she always keeps that in a context that makes working with her a pleasure.  Her nomination for Employee of the Month was a unanimous selection by Departmental staff.
