Suzanne Marsico joined Delaware County’s Department
of Social Services in September, 1983 as a Social Welfare Examiner. She
was later promoted to Senior Social Welfare Examiner, then to Employment
Unit Supervisor. In 1999, Suzanne was promoted to Principal Social
Services Program Specialist.
Today, Mrs. Marsico, and another Principal Social
Services Program Specialist, share management and supervisory
responsibility for the eligibility determination process that the
Department provides to all individuals applying for emergency
assistance, public assistance, Medicaid, Food Stamps and HEAP. As a
team, they share responsibility for the direct supervision of 26 program
staff and the management of some 8,000 cases. Mrs. Marsico coordinates
functions for Department clients in all the above programs including the
BEST Program, which prepares clients to improve their employability.
Suzanne was nominated as Employee of the Month
because she has distinguished herself most particularly in her role as
an employment supervisor. Even today with her expanded Departmental
role, she is looked to as the point person for all Department related
employment initiatives. Delaware has been a consistent high achiever
with entries to employment from its Public Assistance caseload for some
twelve straight years. During those twelve years, Delaware saw more than
90% of its Public Assistance caseload move off assistance with a
significant portion being able to move into employment and maintain
employment.
Mrs. Marsico’s developmental and supportive roles
with the highly acclaimed BEST program and the Department’s Pathways
Project have earned her recognition and praise both locally, such as
from the Delaware County Career Centers, and from our State partners
particularly at the Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance and
the Department of Labor.
Suzanne is also a very dedicated supervisor who still
conducts many interviews with clients herself. She is always looking for
ways to boost Departmental clients and help them find ways to solve the
crisis that is currently challenging them.
Suzanne finds the diverse nature of her job most
rewarding and says, "no two days are quite alike, so each day is a new
challenging experience". She appreciates and enjoys her coworkers.
Suzanne is married and the mother of two. She has
twin granddaughters which are very special and particularly rewarding to
share and enjoy life with… and spoil them terribly!
Suzanne loves to read, crochet and be with her
granddaughters.
Congratulations, Suzanne, and thank you.
